Safety Considerations
All plumbing
must conform to Australian plumbing and drainage standards AS/NZS 3500.
Water tank and
installation must conform to Australian standard AS/NZS 3500.1
Connection to
the water tank must make provision for
a
Visible Air Gap
between pipe entry and
the maximum possible tank water level (in accordance with AS/NZS 3500.1). This
is required in order to meet mandatory backflow prevention requirements.
Under some regional statutory regulations, it may be allowable to install a
compliant backflow prevention device as an alternative to the Visible Air Gap
(consult regulations of local water authority).
Compliant backflow prevention may be achieved using a
Dual Check valve such as Ryemetal P/N 7172 compliant with AS/NZS 2845.1 fitted
inline with the diversion pipe.
The installer
must ensure that a continuous flow of hot water to the tank would not
result in hazardous exposure to hot water. Not withstanding that
precautions have been made in the design of the FIDO electronics to ensure that
failure of any single electronic component does not result in the valve
remaining in the open state, valve failure can occur.
Failure of the
FIDO® unit to correctly shut off the diverting water flow is akin to
a washing machine overflowing, resulting in flood damage and potentially
hazardous exposure to hot water. While such an occurrence is of low probability,
the installer and user of the FIDO® device must be aware of this
possibility.
NOTE: It is advised that a manual valve be fitted inline with the diversion pipe
to shut off the flow of water as a precaution to the unlikely possibility of valve failure. |
